Easy Skillet Berry Crumble
A warm, comforting, and simple berry crumble baked right in a skillet.
I absolutely adore this skillet berry crumble because it's one of those desserts that feels incredibly special and homemade, yet it's so straightforward to make. The aroma of warm berries and cinnamon filling my kitchen is pure comfort, and the best part is that you can mix and bake it all in one skillet, meaning less cleanup! This recipe is perfect for any home cook, even if you're just starting out, as it uses simple ingredients and techniques.
Ingredients
- 4 cups mixed berries (fresh or frozen)
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the mixed berries, granulated sugar, cornstarch, and lemon juice. Toss gently to coat the berries.
- Pour the berry mixture into a 10-inch cast iron skillet, spreading it evenly.
- In a separate medium mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
- Add the cold butter cubes to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry blender, fork, or your fingertips to cut the butter into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the berries in the skillet.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the berry filling is bubbly.
- Let the crumble cool for at least 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm, perhaps with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
