I absolutely love a good savory breakfast, and this Spiced Apple and Pork Sausage Breakfast Hash is one of my favorites to whip up on a weekend morning. It’s got that perfect balance of sweet, savory, and spice that just wakes up your taste buds. Plus, it’s incredibly easy to make – even if you’re new to cooking, you’ll find this recipe super approachable and rewarding. The aroma alone makes it worth the minimal effort!
Ingredients
- 1 lb bulk pork sausage
- 1 large apple, cored and diced (Honeycrisp or Fuji work well)
- 1 medium yellow onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (if needed)
- Optional: Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish
- Optional: Fried or poached eggs, for serving
Instructions
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the pork sausage and cook, breaking it up with a spatula, until browned and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes. Drain off excess grease, leaving about 1 tablespoon in the skillet.
- Add the diced apple and onion to the skillet with the sausage. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onion is softened and translucent and the apple begins to soften, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in the minced garlic, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Season generously with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. If the skillet seems dry, add the tablespoon of olive oil.
- Continue to cook, stirring occasionally, until the apples are tender but still hold their shape, and the hash is heated through, about 5-7 more minutes.
- Taste and adjust seasonings as needed.
- Serve the hash hot, garnished with fresh parsley if desired. It’s delicious on its own or topped with a fried or poached egg.
